MyWay by Metro going fully electric

Timaru’s on-demand public transport service, MyWay by Metro, is set to go fully electric with the introduction of 10 new electric vehicles.

Once rolled out, the regular MyWay fleet will be 100 percent electric, helping reduce emissions while delivering quieter, cleaner journeys for the Timaru community.

Transitioning MyWay to a fully electric fleet shows how regional investment can deliver practical emissions reductions while improving everyday services.

Six of the new vehicles are “Very Small Buses” (VSBs), a first for New Zealand, with the remaining vehicles similar to those already in service.

The new buses improve both capacity and accessibility, with more seating, step-free access and flexible space for wheelchairs and prams, making them a better fit for a range of passengers.

Each vehicle has a range of around 300km per charge, allowing them to operate throughout the day before charging overnight.

The new electric buses will be introduced gradually over the coming weeks as part of the MyWay network.

MyWay by Metro is an on-demand service that matches passengers travelling in the same direction, providing flexible and efficient shared trips across Timaru.
